Sources of Scientific Knowledge: The Geological Concept of Mountains in the Qur’an

By Z.R. El-Naggar

About this book

Sources of Scientific Knowledge: The Geological Concept of Mountains in the Qur’an The book highlights the fact that while all current definitions of mountains are restricted to the outer morphology of such landforms, the Qur’an persistently describes such lofty topographies as “pickets that fix the earth’s surface down and stabilize it lest it should shake with us.” Among an endless list of evidences that go far beyond the scope of this publication, such explicit, precise, and comprehensive scientific statements provide eloquent testimony to the belief that the Qur’an is the word of the Creator. Hence, the basic source of Divine guidance to man, at a time when all previous revelations have either been lost or distorted. Z.R. El-Naggar was educated at both Cairo University and the University of Wales, UK (BS, PhD). He was awarded the Baraka Geology Prize in 1955, the Robertson Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 1963, and the Arab Petroleum Congress’ Best Paper Award in 1970. He commenced his professional career at the phosphate mines in the Nile Valley until he started his academic career with Ain Shams University in Cairo. He then taught at King Saud University in Riyadh, Kuwait University in Kuwait, Qatar University in Doha, and the Kind Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dharhan. He obtained his full professorship in 1972 and has been actively engaged in research work since then.
